Doctors Are Only Human — But That Doesn’t Excuse Mistakes

We expect perfect doctors. The ones that don’t mistakes. After all, healthcare is often a matter of life and death. The extensive training, high salaries, and public trust all reflect this.

But doctors are human. They do make mistakes – sometimes very serious mistakes where the patient dies or has a lifetime of costly, painful health problems.

This is especially heart wrenching when it happens to children and their parents.

Symptoms Of Cerebral Palsy

Unfortunately, this form of birth injury is all too common.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) reports that an estimated 10,000 babies develop cerebral palsy every year in the U.S. Some estimates put the number of kids and adults here living with cerebral palsy at around half a million.

With kids, roughly one out of every 300 has cerebral palsy.

In general, the symptoms of cerebral palsy include:

  • Low muscle tone or “floppiness”
  • Asymmetric movement where the child uses one limb but not the other
  • Difficulty learning to walk at around 12 to 18 months
  • Trouble holding up his or her head
  • Inability to handle common objects (like toys)

This is not an exhaustive list of symptoms. And they don’t necessarily mean your child has cerebral palsy. It can be something else entirely. You must see a doctor for a diagnosis.

Causes Of Cerebral Palsy

In cases of medical malpractice or negligence, the cause of cerebral palsy often boils down to a delayed C-section or a poorly managed birth. The doctor may ignore or misdiagnose the warning signs of fetal distress. The baby may move less in the womb (or not at all), the mother may have a drop in levels of amniotic fluid, and the baby may suddenly have an abnormal heart rate.

These are signs of oxygen deprivation – a clear cause of cerebral palsy.

Why Call Find Injury Law?

Not every case of cerebral palsy is the doctor’s fault. Nor is every poor outcome in other birth defects or birth-related injuries like shoulder dystocia. We can’t always point fingers. But doctors and other healthcare providers are human. They make mistakes. Patients die or are injured by the hundreds of thousands every year.

At Find Injury Law, we help injured children and their parents obtain the highest possible financial compensation by finding the right lawyer for their case. Be it cerebral palsy in the baby from a delayed C-section or serious injuries to the mother from a mismanaged pregnancy, we do the legwork so you don’t have to.

Our service is provided at no additional cost.

Though no lawyer can guarantee results, finding one on your own may unfortunately result in an inequitable settlement or verdict.

We focus on finding the most capable medical malpractice and birth injury lawyers – lawyers who devote their professional careers to this specialized field of law. They often have doctors and nurses as part of their staff. And they have what it takes to negotiate settlements and take these types of cases to trial on your behalf.

Based in Brooklyn, NY, we serve clients throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and in select cases nationwide.
